Community Investors

We’re reimagining a future where both people and the planet can coexist and thrive. This is your opportunity to be part of it. To shape it. To realise it. And to create a legacy of change, together.

"Humanity's future will not flourish through individuals working in isolation, but in how well we can learn to work together. When we understand that our lives are already entwined through interconnected social and ecological systems, striving in separation doesn't make sense anymore. We must return to community care, sharing resources, and collective action. The Circular Initiative is a map for how to do this. "

Community investor criteria

The community investors will become a village council of sorts, helping to shape the long term future of the project not just in decades but generations to come. It’s important we have people joining for the right reasons. So please consider these statements below as a type of initial criteria for community investors.

  • You’re an existing Human.Kind members or long-standing extended community supporter. We’re offering to you first because trust, mindfulness and communication are an essential starting platform for a project like this.

  • You’re not a HK member but are passionate about people and planet, we’d love you to apply and get to know you.

  • You are deeply motivated to improve environmental, social and cultural health in South Australia.

  • You already understand or are excited to learn about Certified B-Corps, regenerative economics, participatory democracy, and purpose-led business.

  • You are able to commit to long term stable investment, with profit not being the driving motive.

Sounds like you?

Please read on.

A place we can all call home

This is an opportunity to develop a deep and long lasting connection to a very special place, and a very special project.

We hope that this is a place that can be shared by many, and passed on to future generations as a cause for hope, connection and prosperity.

Investment Snapshot

As a community investor you will be buying shares in a social enterprise business. This social enterprise will operate the retreat facility, employing a small team to manage daily operations onsite.

Different to business-as-usual approaches to profit, the social enterprise will enshrine its primary purpose as to care for the land and people. So this will always stay a for-purpose project, even if it is financially successful.

As a co-owner you will get to vote on major decisions to shape its trajectory. You’ll also enjoy benefits of early access to retreats and events, off-peak rental rates, and that special feeling of facilitating something that brings so many people healing, joy and connection.

How much Can you invest?

Community investors can invest between $5,000 and maximum of $20,000.

These will be long term investments that are about regenerative outcomes that go beyond profit. So it’s important that you invest at a level that won’t put you under any financial stress. If this level of money is challenging for you, maybe you could consider being part of the Hands & Hearts volunteer group instead.

Financial and non-financial returns

The target return is a modest 5-8% per year dividend. There can be no guarantees as we don’t know what the future holds.

And it’s precisely because we don’t know what the future holds, it’s so important to invest now in shared infrastructure for health and landcare. This project will always be bountiful by way of connection land, learning, community, spiritual enrichment and purpose.

Exit to community plan

Our hope is that the social enterprise will eventually accumulate money to buy-out the land and facility from Major Investors.

The aim is that this land, facility and operation becomes held in commons by the community owned social enterprise for generations to come.

Our Major Investors are onboard with this unique model. This is how we close the circle on this Circular Initiative.

you're now in The business of health retreats

Your shareholder funds will go directly into the retreat business startup costs, like hiring a professional team, marketing and fitout.

The business will receive money by hiring the facility to health groups to run workshops (including Human.Kind), private groups events (like weddings or celebrations) and corporate groups (conferences and wellness). And it will pay operating expenses as a normal business, like staff and subsidised rent (to the friendly Major Investor group in The Circular Initiative).
